Originating in Florida, tupelo honey is quite a special product. It is known for its light, slightly floral flavor, and also for its health benefits. Tupelo honey is said to be a powerful anti-inflammatory ingredient. It may help ease the symptoms of asthma, allergies, and even rheumatoid arthritis. In order to best enjoy these benefits, you need to consume some tupelo honey each day. As delicious as it is, eating it off a spoon gets a little boring after a while, so you may want to experiment with some of these dips and dressings, too.
Balsamic and Honey Dressing
This dressing is lovely over a green salad with fresh apples or mandarin oranges. The tart balsamic vinegar nicely complements the sweet tupelo honey. To make about 1/2 cup of dressing, you need:
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon prepared Dijon mustard
- 1 1/2 tablespoons tupelo honey
- a pinch of salt
- a pinch of garlic powder
Whisk all of the ingredients together. The dressing should thicken slightly due to the emulsifiers in the mustard.
Honey Mustard Dip
This is a thicker dip that is delicious on pretzels, chips, or baby carrots. You can thin it out with some extra apple cider vinegar if you would rather have a salad dressing. But, to make about a cup of the dip version, you need:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons tupelo honey
- 1 teaspoon fresh garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon dry mustard powder
Combine the mustard powder, vinegar, and mayonnaise. Mix together well, and let this mixture sit for about 10 minutes so the mustard can hydrate. Stir in the remaining ingredients, and enjoy. You can store any leftovers in the fridge.
Raspberry Tupelo Honey Barbecue Dip
What could be better than a barbecue dip made with honey and raspberries? Not much! You can dip chicken tenders or even French fries into this one. To make one cup, you'll need:
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons tupelo honey
- 2 tablespoons raspberry jam
- a pinch of cayenne pepper, optional
Combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves. Let cool to room temperature, and enjoy.
With these dip and dressing recipes in your back pocket, you'll be ready to enjoy tupelo honey to the fullest.
